It’s hard to browse the web these days without seeing articles about going green, and it’s even harder to browse without seeing articles about saving money. Luckily for most of us, we’d rather see both types of articles anyway. Here’s a quick summary of what we’ve seen lately:
1) The Walking Blog over at About.com shows us why walking is a cheap alternative to driving.
2) Green Building Elements gives great tips on how to install and use a programmable thermostat to save money and energy.
3) We haven’t seen many other articles about water conservation via urinals, so refresh your memory with this previous post here on The Greenfit Home.
4) If you buy products or use coupons from Greenopping.com, they’ll donate a percentage of everything you buy to environmental and green causes.
5) The fine folks over at GreenMyWallet.com suggest we wash our clothes in cold water to reduce wasted energy and wasted cash.
6) We need to stop wasting paper, and Green Options has a few suggestions. For example, stop paying for print news when you can read it online for free.
7) The Daily Green brings you 30 ways to save money; we agree with their #1: check out books from the public library instead of buying your own.
8 ) The WorldWatch Institute tells us to stop drinking bottled water.
9) With another great idea, which is an oldie but goodie, GreenMyWallet.com reminds us to use public transportation.
10) You didn’t think The Greenfit Home would talk about saving green & going green without mentioning water conservation, did you? In addition to browsing our website for a low flow showerhead, brush up on these Top 5 Ways to Conserve Water.
These are some really good tips, well done! I had never thought of going to the library as a green alternative before. As long as you walk there I guess!
thanks for the comments!
11th way, check for other toilet problems
I learned a trick to see if the fill valve is adjusted to high. Add some talc powder to the top of the tank and see of it disappears down the return tub of you flush valve…if it does you need to lower the float. If you find the flush valve is leaking and needs repair this would be a perfect time to add a SelectAFlush to convert your toilet to a dual flush and save even more water. For the perfect solution to all leak problems also add a leakbird. I like these two product because they also do not impact our dump with old toilets. You can convert your toilet to a dual flush for less than $40.00 and should save gobs’ of water along with your money.
thanks for the tip david.
